Do Not Call Registry
The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has adopted a rule establishing
a national “Do-Not-Call” registry which became effective
on October 1, 2003. In general, telephone solicitations cannot be
made to residential numbers that appear on the national or state
registries.
Savers Marketing does not make calls to consumers to solicit
business.
Although this is our company policy, we do encourage producers to
understand and comply with these new rules if any telephone solicitation
is planned.
Before you make a call to a consumer, you must check the phone numbers
you intend to call against all of the following:
- National Do-Not-Call List
- Your own list (which must be maintained and updated every three
months)
- The insurance company’s specific list
- Your state list (please refer to your specific state’s
website for guidelines and effective dates)
If the number is on the Do-Not-Call lists, you may only call that
number if:
- That person has given written permission to be called at
a designated number
- You have a business transaction with that person within the
past 18 months or 3 months after an inquiry or application
from the customer (unless that person is on your list or the insurance
company’s
list)
- It is a friend or family member
- The call also must be made between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
(local)
Most insurance companies have created websites describing their
rule interpretations and internal policies. You are encouraged to
become familiar with the guidelines of each carrier that you represent
if you intend to make telephone solicitations.
This summary is not intended to be an exhaustive description of
these new rules and regulations. For additional information, you
may visit the federal Do-Not-Call website at www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov.
